can you check dmesg if anything in software fails to work or if it’s a hardware issue…

But all knobs except the home button seems like a software issue to me… :confused:

try this on your CHIP over ssh:

dmesg

this will output all system informations during boot including errors :slight_smile:
if ssh is not set uo a USB keyboard can work too as you mentioned before

hm… no big errors during start up and you connected your mouse/keyboard over USB…

Maybe you can disassemble the PocketCHIP a bit more and take a look under the hood? maybe some connections are lose? check out docs.getchip.com for instructions on that

Is it reacting any time when you shake it a bit? And do you have a second CHIP you can swap in? So you can determine if it’s your CHIP or PocketCHIP. But I think it’s more the PocketCHIP hardware… @gush aren’t you the hardware guy? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, it won’t help, but I do have a second CHIP in preorder? :v About to leave in a few, but when I return to my desk I’ll go through and take apart the PocketCHIP and check connections.

I did have my USB keyboard plugged in at the time as I was messing with calibration - unable to type in xinput_calibration as with the keyboard in terminal I can’t put in an underscore _ . Again, the keyboard worked fine for about 15 or so minutes before it croaked again.

Shaking the unit did nothing. I’m generally pretty careful and haven’t suffered a drop with it. Yet. knock on wood

seems to me more and more like a hardware issue. I’m sure you would get a replacement for that :slight_smile: maybe already issue a email to them to get things started.

I have the same problem as you. That chip seems fine, no defects, but the first time it failed it trailed off like you. And yes, I have been messing around with PocketCHIP GUI 4.4

Further details, I had CHIP GUI 4.4 installed on the CHIP since I started messing with it 14 days ago, at the start of this topic.

I haven’t experienced anything until recently. I’ve taken the CHIP out maybe 3 times prior to the last day as I was seeing if the composite cable I bought worked (spoilers, nope.), and 5 times in the last 24 hours to re-seat and/or flash. When it came to flashing, when flashing 4.4 I would always remove the CHIP from the PocketCHIP before flashing (Iunno. Seemed like the thing to do, and when flashing PocketCHIP 4.3 I’d leave the CHIP in.

(Sorry, just explaining in as much detail I can so things can get figured out.) Everything else I’ve done has been posted on the forum, like using DOSBox, etc. Portable DOS Machine, ahooooy!

Anyway,attempted to re-seat the cable that was under the battery (that adhesive tape, tho’), keyboard is still functional at boot after re-assembly.

Going to mess around with it for a while and see where things go from there.

It didn’t seem like it was seated wrong in the port it goes in, pretty solid.
