Hey all -
I received my PocketChip in the mail a few months ago (AWESOME!) but was struggling what to do with it for a first project. I'm definitely going to use it for mobile gaming with some kind of emulator (SNES on PocketChip, of course!) but until then, why not use if for something for the most current mobile gaming craze, PokemonGo!
These wizards from a reddit forum reverse engineered a bunch of the API for the Pokemon servers, and wrote some fairly simple installers to pull the data from Niantic's servers using Python. Brilliant. I then just got the installers and maps working on the PocketChip! Thought I'd share, and pass on how I got it working.
I followed the instructions here:
But got stuck on one step in which the:
pip install -r requirements.txt
command fails when trying to compile the wheel for pycryptodomex package. Took a few hours to solve it but found this post had the solution:
Had to run the following prior to the 'requirements' step:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install build-essential
Once I did that, re-ran the pip installer and it jumped passed the pycryptodomex issue.
Once that was working,I followed the steps to setup a simple Icon on the home screen that kicks off the python script that populates the maps w/ Pokemon locations by following these instructions (wrote a simple 2liner bash script which I'll post):
(while also of course installing Doom!).
Anyway, thought I'd share w/ Images below!
I'll write a step by step when I get a chance, but in the meantime, need to grab some dinner!
